Experience a Taste of the Country in this award winning café and retail outlet located in the De Iuliis Wines complex next door to Hunter Belle Cheese Room at 1616 Broke Road, Pokolbin. This popular social enterprise café is like walking into an old fashioned, country kitchen. Supporting and assisting youth with barriers to employment, the café has a big holistic program behind the scenes for staff.
Serving hearty country size meals from our all-day breakfast, lunch, morning tea and afternoon tea menu, Taste of the Country cafe offers a wide variety of menu choices. Fully licensed Taste of the Country has a range of beers, spirit mixes and local wines available with meals. Catering for everyone including Coeliac customers, Taste of the Country has breakfasts, burgers, main meals, salads, desserts, our famous scones and a great range of teas as well as coffee.
ALL DAY MENU
Priding ourselves on the traditional country cooking, just like grandma’s, you get value for money and are guaranteed to have Food Like No Udder. Our enormous burgers are made with home style beef patties, our homemade vegan patty, BLT or crumbed chicken schnitzel all served on huge Turkish rolls. Try our Roast Beef and Gravy Roll – succulent roast beef, smothered in gravy on top of buttered bread or our huge big country breakfasts. With food freshly prepared each day – the kitchen is always a hive of activity with something delicious on the boil.
Famous for our Country Ploughman’s Platter for two – guests come far and wide to enjoy this with a glass of local wine. Our menu also showcases the Hunter Belle Cheeses on several delicious cheese platters. Meals and platters are also available for takeaway too and makes an ideal way to finish a busy day of wine tasting.

Located at the De Iuliis Wines complex, the cafe is located next door to Hunter Belle Cheese Room, with Matilda, our Taste of the Country mascot welcoming you into the café or be enticed by the delicious smells from the cooking in the kitchen.
Dine inside or sit on the outside alfresco dining terrace, where you can enjoy the magnificent lawn and landscaped garden. The Broken Back mountain range frames the back of the property, while you sit, relax and indulge in delicious meals or join the family to play on the lawn.
Purchase one of our delicious picnic platter options and sit on one of our complimentary picnic blankets under the shady trees for a nice intimate dining experience.
Allow Louise and her friendly staff to entice you with her country style menu of hearty, family favourites all prepared freshly in the kitchen with local produce and homemade preserves.
The walls of the café are adorned with country giftware and treasures to purchase. Locally made produce is also available for sale.
This is a relaxed dining experience and we can get busy at different times of the day or during peak holiday seasons. Children are welcome with colouring in to do. Our popular children’s menu is half sized meals are reasonable prices.
We are open for dine in and takeaway 7 days a week only closing on Christmas Day and Good Friday.
We have a refreshed menu for dine in and takeaway as well as our popular frozen take home meals available to purchase in the cafe. Offering many gluten free options on the menu.
